Tom Wilkins - The Imposter

Tom Wilkins - The Imposter Cover Art
Written by: Tom Wilkins

Woke up this morning, mirror on the wall.
Looking at a stranger, don't know him at all.
Put on my jacket, zip it up tight.
Stepping out the door, it just don't feel right.

Walking through the crowd, feeling so alone.
Every step I take, I feel like a clone.
Trying to keep up, wear a perfect smile.
Inside I am lost, been searching for miles.

I've been trying all day, to forget how I feel.
It's impossible to shake, and it's making me ill.
I am the imposter, it's the way that I feel.
I'm right here surviving, but it doesn't feel real.

In the nightclub, voices all around.
Laughing at me, I can't make a sound.
in my head, it's a noisy fight.
Will I be found out, and exposed tonight?

Holding on so tight, to a fleeting dream.
Invisible me, it's how I feel.
I try to forget, struggle to do.
I don't know how I'll make it through.

I've been trying all day, to forget how I feel.
It's impossible to shake, and it's making me ill.
I am the imposter, it's the way that I feel.
I'm right here surviving, but it doesn't feel real.

Morning comes by, and I face my fear.
Trying to listen, to the thoughts I can hear.
In the end, I'll be okay, I'll make it through.
But I feel like a fraud, it follows me whatever I do.

I've been trying all day, to forget how I feel.
It's impossible to shake, and it's making me ill.
I am the imposter, it's the way that I feel.
I'm right here surviving, but it doesn't feel real.
